Privacy Policy

Footpong is a football-tennis game playable in a browser at footpong.club and as an Android app. This policy explains what each of them does with data. The short version: there are no accounts and no profiles. Matches are played entirely on your own device and send nothing anywhere about how you played. There are two exceptions, each set out below: an online match against a friend, which the website offers and the app does not, runs on our server; and the app shows advertising between tournament matches, with no personalised targeting and no advertising identifier.
What the game stores on your device
Your settings are kept in your browser's local storage on your own device. They are never transmitted to us, and clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app removes them.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Sound on or off | So the game opens the way you left it |
| Chosen language | So you do not reselect it each visit |
| Chosen ball and character | So your picks persist between sessions |
| Performance read-out on or off | A diagnostic display, off by default |
Match results, scores and tournament progress exist only in memory while the game is running. Nothing about how you play is recorded or uploaded.
The Android app
The game itself collects nothing. It keeps no account, asks for no personal detail, and ships everything it needs inside the download — including its typefaces, so it draws correctly with no connection at all. Every mode runs on your device; playing a friend online is a feature of the website and is not in the app.
The app shows advertising, through Google AdMob. One advertisement can appear at the end of a tournament match — never during a point, never when the game opens, and never more than one placement. That is the only reason the app uses the internet.
Advertising, and what it means for children
This game is for everybody, and the age groups it is offered to on Google Play include children. Google Play's Families policy therefore governs its advertising, and the app is built to it:
- Every advertisement request is tagged child-directed and under the age of consent, so no personalised or interest-based advertising and no remarketing reaches anybody who plays it — children and adults alike.
- The advertising identifier is removed from the app entirely. Both Android permissions that would give access to it are stripped out of the build, so the game cannot read it even by accident, and nothing is or can be tied to it.
- Advertisement content is capped at the general audiences rating.
- Because every user is treated as a child would have to be, the consent form that European rules otherwise require is not shown: nobody is asked to consent to personalised advertising, because nobody receives it.
While an advertisement is requested, Google receives what any such request carries: your IP address, from which an approximate region is estimated, basic device and app information, a non-resettable app identifier that exists only for this app on this device, and diagnostic measurements of whether the advertisement loaded and was seen. It is processed by Google under their own policies, which you can read at policies.google.com.
Nothing about how you play — your scores, which champion you chose, how far you got — is sent anywhere, by us or by them.
The website
footpong.club uses two third-party services that the app does not:
- Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to count visits and see which pages are reached. This uses cookies and processes your IP address.
- Google AdSense, to show advertising. Google and its partners may use cookies to select and measure ads.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, advertising and analytics storage are denied by default and stay denied unless you consent through Google's consent message: until then, no advertising or analytics cookies are set for you. Where that message is shown, you can change your answer through it at any time. Google's own handling of this data is described in Google's Privacy Policy, and you can control ad personalisation at Google Ads Settings.
Playing online against a friend
Choosing to play a friend connects you to a match server we run, and only for as long as that match lasts. It exists because the alternative — one player's device running the game for both — gives that player an advantage that cannot be smoothed away.
While you are in an online match, your device sends that server:
- the room code, which you or your friend created and shared;
- which champion you chose;
- your controls, as you press them, so the match can be played.
None of it is written to disk or kept after the match. A room exists in memory while somebody is in it and is discarded shortly after the last player leaves. There is no account attached to it, no name, and no record of who played whom or what the score was.
As with any connection to any server, your IP address is visible to ours. The match server itself holds it in memory only, to limit how many matches one caller can keep open at once — which is what keeps the server standing — and never writes it down: its own log records that a room opened, that a player joined or left, and the room code, nothing that identifies you.
The web server in front of it keeps a standard access log, as web servers do and as it already did for every page of this site: the address, the time, what was asked for and which browser asked. It is used to keep the site running and to see abuse, it is rotated daily and deleted after fourteen days, and it is not combined with anything else or used to build a profile.
Your friend sees your champion and how you play. They are not given your address or anything else about you.
What we never do
- We operate no accounts and no login, so there is nothing to sign in to.
- We store no gameplay data. Our match server keeps an online game only while it is being played, in memory, and never writes it down.
- We do not sell personal data. We do not share anything about how you play. The only sharing is what an advertisement request necessarily sends to Google, described above.
- We do not knowingly collect anything from children. The game asks for no personal details.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data ourselves, there is no account to access, correct or delete. For data handled by Google through the website, use the Google links above, or contact us and we will help.
Changes
Advertising reached the app in version 0.1.0 (build 109), and this page was updated for it before that build was released. Online play is on the website and is not in the Android app. Features that would change this further — multiplayer reaching the app, signing in, or accounts — are not present today. If any of them ship, this page will be updated before they do, and the date above will change.
